Problem

During our discovery phase we identified three key issues with their existing website:

  1. Outdated design: The existing website had a poor user experience due to confusing navigation and slow load times, making it difficult for users to access content.
  2. Insecure content protection: Premium content meant for members was not well-protected, allowing tech-savvy users to access or share it without authorisation.
  3. Lack of scalable infrastructure: The platform could not efficiently manage students, subscriptions, or courses, nor could it facilitate the sale of in-person events as the business grew.

These issues limited the potential growth of the business and reduced the value members received from their subscriptions.

Solution

Straightforward Digital addressed these issues by implementing a redesign and development strategy to better showcase their service offering & content. The new website included:

  • Modern design and improved user flow: We created a modern, intuitive design with clear navigation and fast loading times, enhancing the overall user experience.
  • Learning Management Software (LMS): We integrated LMS capabilities to restrict content to paying members, manage subscriptions, and support sales in multiple currencies.
  • Ecommerce integration: We enabled ecommerce functionality to sell in-person events, as well as blog, mailing list & podcast capabilities.

Challenges

During the project we encountered two main challenges that required solutions:

Website performance

Achieving fast load times globally was critical for this media-rich website. We implemented a range of techniques such as page-level caching, CDN, offsite video hosting (with its own CDN), and optimised media files to ensure the website loaded as fast as possible.

CRM migration

All customer relationships were managed using a third-party service, which was expensive. We migrated all customers to a new solution that featured tight integration with the new LMS, allowing for improved marketing efforts and significant cost savings.

Results

We saw some incredible results following the relaunch of the website. Within six months, user engagement increased by 109%, organic traffic rose by 383%, and returning users boosted by 358%.

This transformation not only enhanced the user experience but also significantly grew The SportsMAP Network’s premium membership base.
